BBC Wins Rachael Ray’s Battle Of The Best Burger!
In a nationwide search, readers of Every Day with Rachael Ray nominated their favorite local burgers and the top 3 finalists are competing on Rachael’s show in a “Battle of the Burger!” The winner will get the opportunity to cook alongside some of the best chefs in the country in Rachael’s 4th Annual Burger Bash at this year’s South Beach Wine and Food Festival in Miami. They will also receive VIP passes, airfare, hotel accommodations, $500 spending cash, and their recipe featured in Rachael’s magazine!
Meet the finalists!
• Mauricio is competing with a creation named after his ghoulish hamburger joint on Long Island, NY, the “Frank-N-Burger,”: Pineapple, crushed potato chips, sautéed onions, ham, mozzarella cheese, mustard, ketchup and a thousand island dressing called The Pink Sauce. “No more messing around,” Mauricio says, “Frank-N-Burger’s taking you down!”
• Tommy from PYT Burger and Bar in Philadelphia considers himself a burger punk, and he’s throwing his hat into the ring with his Korean Short Rib Burger: Eight ounces of a short rib blend marinated overnight in a traditional Korean BBQ sauce, topped with spicy Korean mayo and topped with kimchee. “I think it’s a pretty awesome combination,” Tommy says. “Watch out, this the people’s champ!”
• Paul, owner of Boston Burger Company in Boston, MA is competing with The Hot Mess: American cheese, chopped up pickles, bacon, red onions, jalapeños, shredded lettuce and sweet potato fries, and it will be oozing with thousand island dressing. “You take that first bite and it just runs down your hands,” Paul explains. We want people to make a mess of themselves when they eat this burger. New York, Philadelphia – you’re in for a burger beat down!”
To judge this beefy battle, Rachael calls in Iron Chef Michael Symon and Everyday with Rachael Ray editor-in-chief, Liz Vaccariello. Michael, no stranger to a good burger, explains what he’s looking for in the competition. “Awesome beef!” he says. “A beefy, beefy burger, and the bun-to-burger ratio.” Liz adds, “It’s all about taste. When you eat it, it has to be delicious, it has to be dripping down your mouth, but we’re looking for a burger with personality, too. When you put it in your mouth, you’re like, ‘Ooh, that’s a burger – wow!’” Watch the video above to see which finalist will be heading to South Beach!
